Mostly the gas stations out in the country is nothing more than a shead, but the people running it often take the time to decorate the signs like this by hand. Damn cute.

This could not happen to me!

Today it became reality. I am a coffe addict.

I felt like shit all morning, sweat, feeling semi-sick.

After lunch Malin suggested me getting some coffe, since I had ben drinking it every day during our vacation she suspected me going coffe-cold-turkey.

She was to damn correct. After the tall latte the sun started shining again.

So now I just have to kick up pricerunner to find the best price for a decent espresso-maker.

Why use webapps instead of apps such as Lotus or Sharepoint?

March 6th, 2008

I often hear the argument that you can do everything you want with the big apps. Why would you want to do that? You have already done 95 percent of “everything you want” in your brain, you just need that extra 5 percent of tasks and calculations (read my earlier post The survival of a web application).

brain_bigapp.gif

With larger apps you are forced into unflexible and fixed solutions that is based more on the history of the app and sales department goals than on human behaviour and usability. Feature A, B, C, D and so on might be there but they might not be what you want or act like you want them to act. It forces its logics and structures on you, slows you down and in the end it hurts your business. Not to mention that it puts you in the hands of one lazy expensive company when it comes to updates and real customization.

95 percent of the work you do in a large app is in the end harmful to your business.

If you instead create your own palette of webapps you will get a working environment that is far more based on your logics and behaviour and as soon as you find an alternate app you can easily change/update your palette.

brain_webapp.gif

Feature A, B, C, D and so on is still here but now you can customize your palette to fit your needs in detail.

Ps. illustrations were made on my Sony Ericsson P1i while on vacation in Thailand :-)

PPs. Cutting costs might also be a real good incitement. Read about Quist that says they save up to $70.000 by switching from Microsoft products to Apple and webapps.

Train - Sweden 2008 “Bad instructions”

March 5th, 2008

sj_platsnummer.jpg

Oh man, this is bad.

If you walk up to a train in Sweden you will see this info on where the different seats are located in the coach.

Does this mean “At the other end of the coach you will find seats 1-28?” or does it mean “Enter here and you will find seats 1-28 to the left”. Well, it means the latter wich is the most unlogical thing in the world. I don’t know how many times I have been walking “up stream” in the coach pissing people off just because I got on in the wrong end.

Recognise the footprints ... and turn them into trails
We need to get away from what has been to find new sources of inspiration and ideas. We need to interact within ourselves to be able to develop thoughts and ideas that are truly unique.

Nofont is not about technology, it's about getting away from the «what» and «how». Nofont is about the «why». The «why» as in ideas and experiments. Experiments with language and communication. With typography and letterforms.
